Reconstruction of 3D Space Structure with a Rotational Imaging System

We examine whether the accuracy of 3-D space point reconstruction from image pairs can be improved by using rotational imaging. The necessary mechanism and mathematical foundations of such a system are described together with the control algorithm needed for achieving optimal reconstruction results.

Semantic Structure from Motion: A Novel Framework for Joint Object Recognition and 3D Reconstruction

Conventional rigid structure from motion (SFM) addresses the problem of recovering the camera parameters (motion) and the 3D locations (structure) of scene points, given observed 2D image feature points. In this chapter, we propose a new formulation called Semantic Structure From Motion (SSFM). In addition to the geometrical constraints provided by SFM, SSFM takes advantage of both semantic and...

Using Dense 3D Reconstruction for Visual Odometry Based on Structure from Motion Techniques

Aim of intense research in the field computational vision, dense 3D reconstruction achieves an important landmark with first methods running in real time with millimetric precision, using RGBD cameras and GPUs. However, these methods are not suitable for low computational resources. The goal of this work is to show a method of visual odometry using regular cameras, without using a GPU. The prop...

Review: Recent Structure-From-Motion Algorithms 3D Shape Reconstruction

Existing face recognition systems are based on 2D facial images and exhibit well-known deficiencies. Accordingly, the face recognition research is gradually shifting from classical 2D to sophisticated 3D or hybrid 2D/3D. 3D shape reconstruction from multiview photographs and video sequences (2D images) is an active area of research which can fully leverage the potential of existing 2D image acq...

3D Structure from 2D Motion

In their day-to-day lives, people naturally understand and operate in a three dimensional world. Curiously, though, they only sense 2D projections of it. The seemingly e ortless act of inferring 3D from 2D observations is the result of complex mechanisms that are still quite far from being resolved. For many years, this task has been considered the primary role of visual processing. Pioneers in...
